Periodontal (Gum) Treatment

Keeping our teeth clean and maintaining good oral hygiene isn’t just important for our teeth to look good, but it also important for our general health, and to specifically avoid problems such as periodontal disease, otherwise known as gum disease.

Periodontal disease is an infection, which affects the gums and bone around the teeth.  If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss.

Signs of periodontal disease include:

  • Bleeding from the gums, particularly after brushing or flossing.
  • Pain, redness and swelling of the gums.
  • Spaces opening up between teeth with food impaction.
  • Bad Breath (Halitosis).
  • Loose teeth due to loss of bone from around the tooth.
  • Pus extrusion from the sockets of the teeth.

If the disease is caught in it’s early stages, it can be brought to a halt with regular cleaning sessions.   Deep cleaning otherwise known as root planing may be performed. In more severe cases, the dentist may decide to refer the patient to a specialist Periodontist who may perform surgical debridement and cleaning of the teeth.

If you have any degree of periodontal disease, we are here to help.  Your oral health is important to us.
